*AutoCast U2 Air Review: A Wireless Apple CarPlay Dongle for Your Car*

What’s up Moz here today we will do yet another product review and that is the AutoCast U2 air. So this is an Apple CarPlay dongle so you can stream Apple CarPlay wirelessly to your infotainment system if your car does not support it.
In my MX-5, we only have wired support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But again, this does not support Android Auto, so if you have an Android, this will not work. However, AutoCast does have other products for Android Auto.
For this specific product, I will link it down below to AutoCast’s website and also to an Amazon link if you want to purchase this for yourself. But make sure you have your vehicle supported, and also this supports iPhone 6 and above, and I believe you need to have iOS 10 installed on your iPhone for this to work.
*Comparison to Previous Review*
Previously, I have done a review of the One Car Stereo AR Box Light. This is a little bit of a different product. This itself is running an Android Auto operating system, but it does have support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly.
Additionally, you can stream YouTube, Netflix, etc., from this device as well. I will link my review up above here and link to the product down below so you can have a look for yourself. But today’s video will focus on the AutoCast U2 Air.
*First Impressions and Installation*

As you can see, it is a very, very small product, but we will see how it will fit into the car once we get on with the installation. I just want to highlight that AutoCast did send this product out for me to review, and I said yes because I want to share knowledge regarding these types of products—what works well,
if it is worth buying, etc. On my MX-5, as I mentioned, I only have a wired setup, and I want to have a wireless setup. I know many of you with MX-5s are looking for specific products that support wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
AutoCast did not require me to say anything specific or be overly positive. I will just give my honest review of the product. With that said, if you found today’s video informative, give it a big thumbs up and remember to subscribe for future content. With that said, let’s get on with the setup.
*Unboxing and What’s Included*

The device and cables come in a standard box, and we have two shorter cables included in the kit. We have a USB Type-C cable, which attaches to the device, and on the other end,we have another USB Type-C if your car is equipped with that type of port.
Additionally, we have a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable if your car does not have USB Type-C ports. Also, make sure you’re using the correct port—some cars have a dedicated port for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so ensure you are using the right port.
The device itself is really small. Here you can see a comparison to my iPhone 14 Pro, and it is surely a small and light device. It measures 14mm in height x 55mm x 55mm, making it easy to tuck away somewhere so it’s not visible.
*Setting Up the AutoCast U2 Air*

Now let’s do the setup live for the first time and see how it goes. We have the device here, and I have my cable connected to it. The MX-5 has two USB Type-A ports. The top one is the one we connect our phone to for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it’s the same port we will connect the AutoCast U2 Air. We’ll turn on the ignition.
The infotainment system in the MX-5 is generally not the quickest, so we’ll see how it goes. If I go to the applications menu, this is where we would see Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.Upon connecting the device to the port, we see an illuminated LED. Now, we see “Apple CarPlay” popping up, but nothing is connected yet.
A Bluetooth device named “Auto-10C1” appears. I search for it on my iPhone, pair it, allow access and sync, and it connects. There’s no need to manually connect through Wi-Fi; the device handles that automatically. Once Apple CarPlay is up and running, we can see it working wirelessly.
*Performance and Testing*

Everything is running smoothly. The touch response is following my finger nicely. Navigating Spotify loads up as expected. Steering wheel controls and dials work just like the OEM setup. Using the map function, I can zoom in and out with the dial, and the overall operation is smooth.
There is a slight delay, but we will compare it to a wired connection to see if there’s any difference. Now, let’s test boot time. I turn everything off and restart the car to see how long it takes before the system boots up. It is surprisingly fast—faster than expected. We do the test again to confirm, and it remains impressively quick.
*Comparison to Wired Setup*

Now, I connect the phone to the car’s infotainment system via a wired connection to compare. The touch responsiveness feels exactly the same as with the AutoCast device. There is no noticeable difference in speed or smoothness. The boot time also remains similar.
The AutoCast U2 Air runs on a 5GHz Wi-Fi band instead of 2.4GHz, which helps maintain smooth performance. Now, let’s compare boot time once again. Turning the car off and restarting with a wired connection, the system boots up almost identically to the wireless setup.
*Final Thoughts*
That was a review of the AutoCast U2 Air. In my opinion, it is a great little device. It has no negatives compared to a wired setup—touch sensitivity remains the same, and boot time is nearly identical.
The small size makes it easy to hide in the MX-5’s compact cabin. I will link to AutoCast’s website below for more details on supported vehicles, phones, and specifications.
I also want to thank AutoCast for sending this product out for review. These are truly my opinions—AutoCast did not influence my review in any way. If you’re interested, I will also provide an Amazon affiliate link if you’d like to purchase it.
